Congratulations to King United 1999 Girls

King United 1999 Girls visited our Nationís Capital the first weekend in August. They participated in Ottawaís prestigious Showcase of Champions Tournament. Many of the players signed up for the College Combine for four hours on the Friday prior to the tournament start. It was an excellent experience run by College Coaches who put them through various drills and scrimmages. Saturday donned bright, beautiful and hot; we won our only game that day against Vaughan (1-0). On Sunday we played two games in the blistering heat. We triumphed over Burlington 3-2 in a hard fought battle. We then headed over to Carleton University to play a team from New Brunswick. This was a very exciting game that had us winning 1-0 until the last two minutes of the game and the Fundy team scored and ended the game in a tie. Although the players were a bit frustrated and discouraged they came away from that game with their heads held high and some lessons well learned about playing to the whistle. We made it to the Finals! Our Final game against Ottawa was at 1 pm on Monday. Even though every player had blisters, bruises, and/or injuries the team persevered and gave it their all. After regulation play we were tied 1-1 against a team who played at the highest competitive level. Penalty kicks was the determining factor for the championship and it was nerve wrecking to say the least. There was no way we were going to lose this tournament in penalty kicks. Our keeper stood on her head and made some amazing saves in combination with some serious finishing to the back of the net, by our five kickers, we were victorious. Yes!! We won first place in our Division at the Showcase of Champions. Congratulations King United on your win. You deserved it.
